Arrow offers exquisite textures surrounding a series of colorful shafts.
My eye is attracted to the possibilities of a woven image of soft feathery, yet hard color.
The beauty of the arrow, risky yet worth the making…letting my soul shine!
As an arrow is released, the shaft bends before straightening in flight…fletching.
Feathers on an arrow create wind drag & also cause the arrow to spin like a rifle bullet, providing stability & accuracy in flight.
As my object (personal) Shafts of wood
Hints of paint & stain…weathered
Feathers or vanes (broadblades) attached to a rotating axis
Shot from a bow…action
Pointing in a direction of choice
Left…warding off evil Right…protection
Down…peace
The woven fabric base (my canvas), allows me to move threads
& found objects within the structure where the pattern then takes a “back seat”
to a new dimension with the addition of Turkey and Pheasant feathers.
I chose to display this fabric of cotton, silk, tencel & rayon, from an arrow crafted by a Native American, to complete my vision.
